An Invitation to Join the Eclipse U8 HYSA Team or U9/10 Academy Programs

Eclipse Soccer Club invites your son or daughter to experience soccer at a higher level.  Consider joining the Eclipse U8 HYSA Team or U9/10 Academy program, both of which offer professional training and a slightly higher level of competition compared to recreational soccer.

The club offers two programs for U8 and U9/10 aged players — some players will choose to play in our recreational soccer program, while others will choose to play in our Eclipse HYSA or Academy programs.

Parents often wonder which program to choose for their young player. There are differences between our recreational soccer program and the Eclipse HYSA Team/Academy programs, and this information explains those differences. Additionally, we believe the following will explain how the Eclipse HYSA Team/Academy programs differ from the Eclipse Select program that begins at the U11 age group.

Take a look at the information, and then drop us a line if you still want to talk about it. Either way, you can’t go wrong because the club offers a choice between our fine recreational soccer program and the additional opportunities available in our Eclipse HYSA Team/Academy programs.

U8/U9/U10 Recreational Soccer U8 HYSA Team & U9/U10 Academy Programs
Team Makeup Players are divided into teams primarily by location and age. After completion of the evaluation sessions, players will be placed on age and level appropriate teams.  Depending on the number of players attending the evaluation sessions, we will try to form 2-5 teams in each group: U8 girls, U10 girls, U8 boys, U10 boys.
Practices Recreational teams generally practice 2 times weekly with a volunteer coach. Eclipse U8 HYSA & U9/10 Academy players are offered 2 training sessions a week with professional Eclipse trainers.
Games Games are scheduled once a week on Saturdays locally against the other in-house recreational teams. Games are scheduled once a week on Saturdays against other club teams. 50%-70% of the games will be played locally. 30% – 50% of games are a 10-30 minute drive to other clubs’ HYSA fields (all SW Houston).
Tournaments Recreational U9/10 teams are welcome to participate in the annual Eclipse Friendship Tournament, held locally. Teams generally play two to three tournaments each season. Some teams will play one of their tournaments in Austin or San Antonio at the discretion of the Director of Training. Other tournaments are generally in the Houston area. Due to the number of tournaments they play, Eclipse U8 HYSA & U9/10 Academy teams play about twice as many games annually as the recreational soccer teams, accelerating their skill development.
Cost Approximately $330/year Approximately $1000, due primarily to players receiving professional training and additional tournament fees.
Emphasis Emphasis is on fun. Emphasis is on fun and enhanced player development. The Eclipse U8 HYSA & U9/10 Academy programs are phenomenally successful in building up each individual player’s soccer skills and awareness of the game. Attending the Academy Program helps to transition players into the Eclipse Select Program.
Primary Targets Children who enjoy soccer as one of their favorite activities. Players who enjoy soccer as one of their favorite activities, and who would enjoy the challenge and benefits of training under professional trainers.

Additional Information – Eclipse U8 HYSA Team and U9/10 Academy Programs

The club’s philosophy for this age group is simple: We want to develop each individual player’s soccer skills in an environment that is fun and keeps the kids interested in playing soccer. We want these U8 and U9/10 players to develop the best dribbling, passing, and shooting skills possible over the two-year period, and give them numerous playing situations to exercise their decision-making processes. It is interesting to note that winning games is not a significant goal of the program. Wins will occur, but only as a byproduct of their individual skill development. Since skill development is the primary goal, we recommend that no one will play more than half of a game as a goalkeeper, and every player is guaranteed at least 50% play time in each game so that they have ample opportunities to make decisions on the field of play.

Team Formation

Eclipse HYSA/Academy teams are formed shortly after the conclusion of evaluations. Evaluations are held each year in early May at Lost Creek Park after which the trainers will form teams based upon player turnout. Click here for information on evaluation dates.

Team meetings will be called with the teams’ parents within a week or two after team formation. Registration and team fees are due when you register your player during the registration process that occurs in May and June.  Payment plans are available to spread out training fees over a 5-month period.

The Eclipse training staff publishes annually a list of recommended tournaments. The Director of Training decides which tournaments the team will participate in.

Fall season will find Eclipse teams playing in the Houston Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) against other clubs from the Southwest Houston area.

Eclipse HYSA/Academy teams will consist of up to 12 players per team, but will never have a roster that exceeds 12 players per STYSA rules.

All teams are trained at Lost Creek Park in Sugar Land, one of the finest lighted soccer facilities in Texas. Eclipse Soccer Club also hosts the Academy Cup In December and the Eclipse Invitational Cup in January, attracting some of the top teams/clubs in the state and region.

No prior club experience is required to tryout for Eclipse. The purpose of the evaluations is to form teams with players of similar abilities, develop the individual player skills, and then to develop age appropriate skills required for team play.

Beyond the U9 and U10 age groups, Eclipse Soccer Club runs one of the top select programs for both boys and girls in the state. Based in Sugar Land, Texas, Eclipse teams have established themselves as some of the state’s most successful teams with scores of first place finishes in area, district and state championships. Open to male and female players, Eclipse offers Premier League, Division I, Super II, and Division II soccer from U-11 to U-18 age groups.

Our professional staff is second to none, and consists of trainers who are recognized as some of the best in the state.
